a prayer after john 8

Lord, you do not condemn us!
We know red-faced, undressed shame,
and if it were up to us, we’d return to our own dark corners to hide.

But you, in your great mercy, do not condemn us.
You baptize us with clean water
and send us on our way into your marvelous light.

All we can think to do is fall at your feet and say,
“Thank you, thank you, thank you.”

So we thank you for the light that you have brought to us,
we thank you for the saints of light who make up this congregation,
we thank you for dressing us in the beautiful clothing of the Spirit—
compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience, and love.

And we pray on behalf of the world,
longing for everyone to know your mercy,
to see and be seen in your light,
to be clothed in your love.

  1. Beautiful Grace! I’m glad you all are having such a wonderful time so far. I love the way this prayer is bookended, undressed shame – clothed in love. A wonderful and convicting image. But your pictures are proof that God’s clothing and artistry, are far better than what we choose to clothe ourselves with most of the time. I’m excited to keep reading!
